What does it mean to be a Modern Professional?
I categorize myself as a coach for modern professionals. But—let’s define that before we go much further.
What is a modern professional?I believe that modern professionals want more than a paycheck. They want alignment—to know that their work is meaningful and that their values align with those of their employers.
Some modern professionals are fine with a 9 to 5 job and don't seek out meaning or purpose in their work—no desire to climb the ladder or start a new venture—but they do want some things in their environment to change.
Some modern professionals want to progress into leadership positions and make a real difference in the organization. Many people who identify as women, neurodivergent, and BIPOC folks want to raise voices for folks in their communities who are also marginalized.
Others are no longer satisfied with the status quo and want to branch out on their own. We are in a time and place where those things are possible.
In a nutshell, the modern professional is more aware of what's going on in the world, they recognize the traditional choices in front of them, and they also see a wide variety of other paths. In this case, modern means options – and, sometimes all of these options means making a decision on which to follow can be overwhelming.
Modern professionals seek support from a coach for a number of reasons:
they want to explore the paths they’re seeing in front of them and find clarity;
they want to identify their values and seek exploration on how living by those values can support their identity;
they want to step out of the traditional work landscape into a space that best serves them with thoughtfulness, intention, and purpose.
